Welcome to the HOUND LOUNGE dog daycare
We specialise in dog socialisation, in a safe, structured, stimulating, fun and loving environment. Our aim is to provide the best possible daycare service to ensure your dog has a great time while in our care.
This starts from when we pick up your dog from your home, they then get to socialise with their mates; having supervised play, lazing around and enjoying cuddles and pats with the team, and then finally we drop off your dog back to your home.
We are situated amongst the native bush, so your dog gets plenty
of fresh air and exercise.
Who we are and how we operate
Hound Lounge is an outdoor dog daycare located on a section of land in Lower Hutt. Although we are based in Lower Hutt, we are dedicated to servicing our client base in the Eastern Suburbs ((parts of) Hataitai, Island Bay, Lyall Bay, Kilbirnie, Miramar, Seatoun, Breaker Bay, Karaka Bay, Maupuia, Melrose, Moa Point, Rongotai, and Strathmore Park).
We don’t want your dogs to spend too long travelling in the vehicles, so we have planned our van runs with efficiency in mind. Plus, we will use the time in the vehicle wisely. All dogs who travel with us will be trained and taught our van etiquette; meaning we will teach them what we expect when in the vehicle. This starts with the basics – individual sits, stays/waits before any dog is allowed to enter or exit a vehicle (like the work we currently do with the dogs for impulse control at gates / doors).
We have a fenced off yard for your dogs to socialise, relax and play. We also have a big shelter, dog jackets and a heater for those cold and wet days. And of course, swimming pools for summer.
We expect each dog to come to us with basic obedience, but we reinforce with all our dogs basic obedience, loose lead walking, impulse control and staying calm in distracting environments. We believe that dogs need clear communication and boundaries from us humans. This means, praising/ reinforcing them when they're doing a good job, and redirecting/ correcting them when they're not making the right decisions. If they don't know what they are doing wrong they will most likely keep doing it!
What we offer
Dogs are picked up from your home between 7.30am and 9 am and are safely transported in caged vans to the property in Lower Hutt. They stay there for around 3.5 hours where they socialise, play, and relax in the yard.
We have between 2 and 3 experienced dog handlers in the yard at all times. The dogs are always supervised, and the dogs play and interactions are managed. We strive for a calm atmosphere, where all dogs are happy and balanced. We practice basic obedience with the dogs, such a sit, down and recall.
Dogs are then dropped back home between 2.30pm and 4pm. Dogs are away from home from between 4 and 6 hours due to transit time. The daily rate is $52 per day, pick up and drop off is included in the price.
